Our research

Bridging the gap between scientific discovery and practical, on-farm applications

By combining research with industry expertise, we will help position Australian agriculture as a key player in the global transition to a lower emissions future.

Research programs

We invest in innovative research across four key programs

Program 1

Low Emissions Plant Solutions

This program will develop solutions for low-emissions broad-acre and horticultural systems, as well as reduce emissions in cattle and sheep via the delivery of anti-methanogenic plant properties and low-emissions, high-productivity mixed-species pastures.

Program 2

Towards Methane-Free Cattle and Sheep

This program will provide the technology and quantification required to transition livestock production to a low-methane emission future.

Program 3

Whole Farm and Mixed Enterprise Systems Analysis

This program will integrate all the science emerging from the CRC to provide farmers with the guidelines, resources, metrics, and benchmarking tools required for a profitable transition to net-zero emissions.

Program 4

Delivering Value from Net Zero

This program will develop renewable energy and circular economy solutions that create profitable opportunities for agribusinesses and rural communities. The program will improve supply chain management and enhance access to key export markets.

Education and Training

The transition to low-emissions agriculture demands more than innovation, it requires a skilled, informed and connected workforce.

Our Education and Training program is designed to equip producers, researchers, educators and supply chain participants with the knowledge and tools to lead this transformation.

Our program spans the full spectrum of learning, from short, applied courses co-developed with industry, to postgraduate research opportunities and professional development for educators. Whether you’re a farmer trialing new technologies, a teacher shaping the next generation, or a researcher driving breakthroughs, our education and training initiatives are built to support your journey.

Indigenous Engagement

We are committed to embedding Indigenous participation and leadership across all our activities.

Priorities include:

  • Establishing two-way knowledge sharing partnerships with Indigenous farmers and researchers
  • Supporting Indigenous-led projects aligned to emissions reduction
  • Providing opportunities for Indigenous scholars and researchers within CRC initiatives
  • Ensuring cultural capability building across our programs and partners

Through these initiatives, we aim to respect Indigenous knowledge systems, focus on Indigenous inclusion and engagement to strengthen cultural awareness and ensure two-way knowledge exchange in the transition to a lower emissions future.

Producer Demonstration Sites

Real farms trialling real solutions.

Where emissions reduction technologies are tested in the paddock, not just the lab.

Demonstration sites are translating research into real-world impact. Spanning Australia’s diverse agroecological zones, the CRC’s network of 25 PDS will showcase how low-emissions farming can be profitable, practical and scalable. Each site is selected to represent a major agricultural pursuit, soil type, landscape or climate, ensuring that the research is relevant and adaptable across the sector.

At each PDS, producers work alongside CRC researchers to test and refine technologies in their own production systems, whether livestock, cropping or mixed farming. These trials are designed to validate research findings at scale, accelerate adoption, and build producer capability through hands-on learning and peer-to-peer engagement.

By embedding research in commercial settings, the PDS program helps producers gain confidence in new approaches, while providing the CRC with critical feedback to improve and tailor its innovations. It’s a model designed to de-risk adoption, build trust, and deliver measurable progress toward zero net emissions in agriculture.
